“Cursed?”

Dear Sandy B: We all know that the murders and injuries that took place at Pulse the other night were horrific. However, I am still trying to figure out why it took the police three hours to finally make a move to subdue this one person. They keep saying on T.V. that they had recently practiced for just this type of situation. Please help me understand the delay in their response.

Ermelinda, Orlando

Dear Ermelinda: My best guess is that law enforcement had to come up with a reasonable strategy for this particular situation, as no two situations are the same.

“Ain’t nobody wanna run up in there and get shot up”.

It took time for all of those law enforcement folk to get there, and then to decide on who and what to do to get the best results. We ain’t in their situation, so it’s easy for us to think they should have run in there like “gang busters”, but remember they are human just like us. Rapid fire would slow the best of us down. I sure thank the men/ladies in Blue for their courage. God bless the families, friends and the entire community for courage and peace.

Dear Sandy B: When I turned on the T.V. this morning and saw that a 2 year old boy had been snatched by an alligator, I was dumb founded. I immediately thought about the sad event at Pulse, two days ago, and the murder of the entertainer, Christina, just before that. I am not one who has ever believed in the power of a curse on a person or situation, however the last few days in Orlando has me wondering if there is such a thing as a curse on people and maybe the entire city. I have lived here my entire life and I have never witnessed or thought I would live through several distressing days like this past week. What’s your thought on “curses”?

Roberta Orlando

Dear Roberta: I think there is something to the concept of “curses”. It’s hard for me to believe that the Kennedy Family was not cursed, given all the tragedies that family endured. Check out their history, and come to your own conclusion. I can’t imagine why the “City Beautiful” has experienced such tragedies in such a short period of time, but, if there is a curse out there, I hope the end of it is near.

Grandma’s Gem: Be happy with what you got!!
