(CNN) -- A jury awarded $2.5 million in damages on Friday to a Kentucky teenager who was severely beaten by members of a Ku Klux Klan group because they mistakenly thought he was an illegal Latino immigrant, the Southern Poverty Law Center said.
RALEIGH - The head of the state's NAACP chapter today called for a "strong response and punishment" for the N.C. State University students who painted racist and threatening graffiti aimed at President-elect Obama.
It sounded like such a good idea. The National Urban League, the well-respected civil-rights organization, surveyed about 5,500 U.S. workers assessing the effectiveness of corporate-diversity programs from these employees' perspectives as well as their company leaders'. The results of this survey, first published in 2005, have been cited as examples of what employees think about diversity and what "progressive" companies are doing.
