Approximately 17.5 million cars were purchased in 2016, representing an unprecedented sixth consecutive year of growth in the industry. If you’ve recently bought one of those new cars and are checking out the Floridian sights as a family, Legoland is a great place to bring the kids. But if you’re more than a short drive away from the theme park, you might be dreading the inevitable cries of “Are we there yet?” from your young ones. Luckily, with Legoland Florida’s new app, those questions may never even have to be asked.

The new app, named The Quest to Legoland, is targeted towards kids ages six to 12. Its goal? Keep children occupied and engaged during the time it takes to travel to the park. The app uses GPS to point out landmarks, like historic sites, bodies of water, and cities, along the way. It also allows users to play games, test their trivia knowledge, and unlock special missions.

Like your navigation system, your route plays out in real time through the app and is instantly transformed into an adventure using Lego characters as your guide. It features different kingdom, beach, and pirate themes, too.

One test outing, which started in Orlando, pointed out the Daytona International Speedway, Lake Monroe, the Coca-Cola Orlando Eye observation wheel, and other destinations.
The app is currently free to download for both iPhone and Android users. The move by Legoland reflects the increasing trend for theme parks to utilize such apps to entertain and inform their users as an extension of their visit.

A staggering 75 billion mobile apps had been downloaded from the Apple App Store as of June of 2014, and that number only continues to grow. However, Legoland is one of the only apps that does so during the ride to the park itself. Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld parks all have an app that functions once visitors arrive.

Legoland is currently developing an app specifically for in-park experiences, so soon enough, your visit to Legoland may become even more enhanced. For now, at least the trip there may be a little less irritating and a little more fun.
