North Korea threatens U.S. with nuclear attack

Last week CIA Director Mike Pompeo said publicly that the Trump administration is looking for a way to separate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un from that country’s growing nuclear arsenal.  This week, North Korea responded, saying if there is “even the slightest sign [that an] attempt” is made to remove Kim from power, it will launch a nuclear missile and “preemptively annihilate those countries and entities that are directly or indirectly involved. The ousters of Saddam Hussein (Iraq) and Muammar Khadafi (Libya) are largely responsible for North Korean fears.

But even though North Korea has suggested that a preemptive strike against the U.S. would happen only if America attempts to oust Kim Jong Un, it is unclear what the regime might consider “an attempt.”  Imposing sanctions against North Korea– an action often taken by this country in situations such as this– could be considered an attempt to oust Kim.
