On March 20, Timothy Caughman staggered into a New York police station, bleeding from stab wounds and in severe distress. Two days later 28-year-old James Harris Jackson, 28, turned himself in and was arrested on murder charges in the death of  Caughman.  Jackson, who is white, allegedly stabbed the 66-year-old black man to death in New York City, after having traveled all the way to New York to commit the crime in the “media capital of the world.”  His intent was to “make the biggest statement” he could, according to police.
According to the Associated Press, Caughman had been picking through thrash in midtown Manhattan on Monday when Jackson, who had concealed a 26-inch mini-sword in his long overcoat, walked up and repeatedly stabbed the unsuspecting homeless man.   Caughman was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Jackson apparently saw the photo of himself that police released in connection with the homicide, and decided to turn himself in.

“I’m the person that you’re looking for,” he told police,
Jackson reportedly told police that he has hated black men for at least 10 years and he traveled to New York on March 17 to kill somebody, because New York is the media capital of the world, and he wanted to make a statement,”
