The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in solving the murder of Terrance Givens, an Evans High School student who was shot to death at a  birthday party being given in his honor last Saturday.  He would have turned 17 the following Monday, October 24.

Deputies responded to a call of shots being fired around 10:25 PM at the Givens residence on Kingsland Avenue, just blocks away from Evans High school.  Some 50 or 60 family members and friends were outside the house enjoying the party when someone opened fire on the group.  Givens, who was standing on the front porch, was hit, as was an 18-year-old woman, who was shot in the ankle.  Both were transported to ORMC, where the woman was treated and released.  Givens died late the following day.

One neighbor said the gun shots were so numerous that he thought he was hearing firecrackers go off.  Another said “it sounded like popcorn popping.  Maybe 30 or 40 shots.”
It is unclear at this time if Givens or anyone else in the crowd was being targeted, or if the shooting was a random act of violence.  Authorities are investigating.
Meanwhile a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by Crimeline for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.  Call 407.423-TIPS.
