In an effort to reduce the soaring rate of people locked up in American prisons, the Obama administration will release about 6,000 federal inmates between Friday and Tuesday.  As many as 1,800 of these released inmates will be immediately turned over to immigration officials for deportation proceedings.  Most of them are Mexican, according to the report.  In fact, most foreign prisoners in the U.S. are from Mexico, says the BBC.

For 763 of the these inmates, deportation has already been ordered, and they will likely be on planes or buses within the next several days.  The remaining ex-cons will be sent to immigrant detention centers where they will await the results of those deportation proceedings.
