Almost unanimously, the other contenders for the GOP nomination insist that Donald Trump does not stand for GOP values and will not be the party’s nominee in the 2016 presidential election.

The Donald says they’re wrong, and insists that he will be the candidate for president representing the Republican party this fall.

Since launching his campaign last June, Trump has dominated the news and kept a sizeable lead over all his Republican rivals. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has gained momentum in recent weeks, and according to at least one national poll is now in second place with 24 percent of polled votes.

Should Trump win the nomination as he insists, he has publicly stated he believes Hillary Clinton will pose no obstacle to his run for the Oval Office.

Among Advocate readers polled during November and December of last year, the overwhelming majority say Trump will not make it to the presidency. While 20% said they absolutely would vote for Trump for president, 77% said they would “definitely not” vote for him. Only 3% were undecided.
